First post....

I started a blog a looooong time ago over at LIVE LAUGH LOVE..... BUT since I haven't updated it since like April of 1876 instead of just "revamping" it I decided I'd start something new.  So here is my new BLOGGY home... TRI and Finish!

Tri training started again yesterday (a whole workout of strength and stretching)... and I figured this would be a great avenue for documenting my training, goals, etc.

Not only am I tri-training; I'm also 1/2 marathon training.  Shall I start from the beginning????

I had this idea awhile ago that I wanted to train for a half-ironman.  April 2011 is the expected date... in New Orleans.  NOLA was chosen for two reasons (scratch that three reasons.....)

1.  It's a lake swim - no thanks to big crashing waves in the oceans; if they had a half ironman pool swim bet your cute little tooshie I would be signing up for THAT - but since there is no such thing; I figured a lake would be best bet.

2.  Who doesn't want to end a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run with a famous New Orleans Hurricane and big 'ol fat bowl of gumbeaux?  I DO - suck it if you think that sounds horrible... Last season while Cayla would nibble on bananas and bagels I would be chowing down on some pizza... maybe that's why she weighs 20 pounds less than me...but that's neither here nor there....

3.  Bill's never been - how fun for his first experience to be while I kill myself.... he will enjoy this immensely.

BUT before I attempt this absolute terror I figured I better get a 1/2 marathon under my belt... hence the dual tri - 1/2 marathon training...

So the blog title not only screams my mom's age old advice, but it also ties in with my theme of these dumb triathlons I find myself loving....JUST FINISH!

I have somewhat of a competitive nature but most of the time that only shines through when I'm passing the athena aged woman on my bike or as I'm out pacing the 75 year old man crossing one more thing off his bucket list, but that's about it.

Normally my mind through the course of any race..."just finish" repeat x about 5,000.  The feeling I have when I cross the finish line, hear my name over the speaker and I'm drenched in sweat... that's what I love...the fact I did it, I finished, my split time doesn't matter....my bike pace doesn't matter.... my snail's pace run doesn't matter.... I did it I finished...that's what matters!

Welcome to my new blog home friends....just as I say at my house when you come and visit..... grab a drink, put your feet up, make yourself at home and stay awhile...

much love,
al

  2. Yayyy!! I can't wait for NOLA! You will be amazing! And not to freak you out or anything, but last year, the waves in the lake were HUGE. Sooo, I'm just saying, make sure your swimming is solid...the lake could be like glass or it could be rough. I'll hope for glass. :) And then you can party like a rockstar!! SOOOO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!
