Par for the course......

Pretty par for the course these days that I am overwhelmed and WAYYYY behind on blog reading.

As in 1000+ unread blogs....so many that google has stopped counting.

My sincere apolgoies for falling off the face of the earth.

I haven't been doing much EXCEPT working the REAL job, working the LTF gig, and planning the RIDE 4 Jess on October 9.

Very excited to annouce that we have a sponsor for the event:

Nutrition Addiction: There mission is to bring good nutrition to community members and to provide the valuable service of informing people about the importance of good nutrition and regular exercise to achieve optimum health.
There GOAL: To fill the gap between the desire and the action, giving members the tools to help those that want to make a change for a healthier lifestyle. Providing solutions, motivation, education and a friendly atmosphere where they feel valued and supported with like minded individuals.

We will be starting and ending the ride from their location in Grapevine - all proceeds from smoothie sales that day will be directly donated to the National Brain Tumor Society.  Along with that they will post up an aid station around mile 6.5 of the first loop, mile 19.5 of the second loop and mile 32.5 of the third loop which will serve the HerbaLife Prolong Product mixed with water.

Prolong is a dual-source blend of maltodextrin and low glycemic fructose facilitates carbohydrate utilization with a 12:1 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio with ultrapure whey protein isolate that helps reduce muscle breakdown during exercise.  Bioavailable electrolytes help maintain a cellular environment for proper muscle contraction and B Vitamins support carbohydrate metabolism.  Provides 500% daily value of Vitamin C to scavenge cell-damaging free radicals.

In layman's terms....the stuff is delicious.

So that's where I am right now with THAT!  I am very excited that this has taken on a life of it's own and we are a little over a month away from actually hosting the ride.

Don't forget you can participate virtually - just make a donation to my fundraising page (ANY AMOUNT IS APPRECIATED) and let me know you are participating either by commenting or emailing me at
allie0622{at}yahoo{dot}com.

If you are going to actually be able to BE THERE on October 9 - let me know that too.... email or comment!

We will  have donation tables set up for credit card donations the day of the ride!  Donations will be accepted through November 5!

Happy Monday Y'all!

Ahhhhhh

Friday is here!  YAY!!!

It's been a crazy summer and I've barely had time to blog; BUT I'm so glad I did get the announcement out about the Ride 4 Jess..... I am so excited to share this with everyone and I thank you for your support!

Have you "liked" us on FB yet??? You should!  Please go NOW and like us - follow the new blog Ride 4 Jess and keep up to date with all the information surrounding the ride.

This weekend is jammed packed (as summer weekends usually are) but I'm thrilled to hop on my bike and start riding away.

The bike ride will definitely be a challenge; but it will all be worth it in the end.

If you have any ideas on how we can better promote this ride and cause please email me and let me know!

If you are in the DFW area and have connections at news stations, radio stations, newspapers, etc I would love to utilize your resources.

The more I can spread the word about this cause, the more money we can raise, research can improve, patient advocacy can improve and WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

HAPPY FRIDAY Y'ALL!!!!!!!!

The BIG announcement

It's a BIG announcement; but without many details - it's still in the infancy stages...

So many are familiar with the great EMZ, you read her, you love her (instantly) and you want her to be your running buddy, best friend, champion, and second mom (what a lucky little girl peanut is).

She is awe-inspiring, has the best abs known to man, the greatest belt buckle ever created, and a compassionate heart.

She has inspired me through her blog posts for quite sometime now, her shoe collection is unreal.... and she got me thinking.

Like.freaking.thinking

I was standing over a pot of spaghetti one night thinking about Jess, EMZ, Sojourner and the Brain Tumor Walk - how can I MAKE a difference THIS YEAR (remember here?)

and then it hit me......

By.riding.my.freaking.bike.

A 12 hour bike ride for Jess.

EMZ ran for Sojourner - I will ride for Jess (and all other BT patients, families, survivors, friends, caregivers, researchers, etc)

So ... here it is...

When: October 8, 2011

Where: To be determined...

Why: Ride to fight Brain Tumors 2011

How can you help: GO HERE and donate to my fundraising page

More details to come…. Trust me lots more details….

Oh yes, I’ll be back with an update about where I’ve been lately; after I read my 847 unread blog posts in my google reader…… YIKES!!!!

47 days until Maui……. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

75 days until the 12 hour ride for Jess

Looking backward, forward and inward.....

As 2011 is on the horizon I'm sure it is to bring many great accomplishments for you and for me.  I have been thinking A LOT the past few days about 2011 and what I really want to accomplish...... As most people do, I  make resolutions that I probably have a 50/50 shot of keeping.....

I make more than I know is feasibly possible so when I cross off 50% of them on my list I can actually feel like I attained something...rather than making two and keeping true to one...make sense?

Looking backward in 2010 it was a significant year of growth for me; personally, athletically, and professionally.

Personally

Bill and I found our way back to one another, and all though, the road has not been "smooth" over the past 12 months it is sure to be paving out nicely now.  Like every other relationship that is "rebuilding" we have our ups and downs - but we are in a good place and continue to grow together.

I continue to grieve the loss of my best friend, Jessica.  She was truly my heart and soul...it may sound weird to say that about a best friend, but she knew me better than anyone.  I miss her everyday and still cope with the fact that in our earthly world I will not see her again.  It is a struggle every day when I think of her......but it also puts an enormous smile on my face.  To have something make you so sad yet so happy all in one breath is something I can not explain.

My relationship with my family has grown tremendously over the last 12 months.  I love my family and without them; well I wouldn't be here.  They continue to support me in every decision I make and are always my biggest fan.

Of course, it wouldn't be a good post without mentioning all of you!  My blog has been a tremendous avenue for meeting (virtually) new friends that support me and continue to be non-judgmental.  It is a brave act to put yourself out on the web; and with that comes the opportunity for criticism.  I think I have the best readers in the world..... you never judge, you always listen, and I appreciate all the sweet sweet comments and emails you send.

I know I have been horrible (HORRIBLE!) about commenting lately on YOUR blogs, but I do read every day and I promise to comment more in 2011 :)

Professionally

I changed careers in July 2010 and it was by far the best decision I have made in my professional life.  The opportunities I have at my new company widely surpass those of the past.  I found out today I am getting a bonus on 1.7.2011 - that can't come fast enough!

Athletically

Where do I start here?  Although my race count isn't very high this year I have made LEAPS AND BOUNDS in endurance, stamina, and believing in myself.  I never thought I would run a half marathon or have the desire to complete a Half-Ironman; but low and behold I have finished the half marathon and well on my way to achieving the half-ironman.  I have met so many amazing people through my multi-sport lifestyle as well as my blogging, I'm so appreciative for each and every one of you.  You let me share my neurotic, random, rambling stories - post un-Godly amount of pictures, and just accept this blog for what it is - me on paper.

In 2010 - I PR'd a 5K, 10K, 15K and a half marathon.  I made huge strides on biking capabilities and even larger strides on my running.

I look forward to 1,000 mile challenge in 2011 with Tall Mom - Hoping I can get a jump start over the first 4 months with my 70.3 training.

All - in - all 2010 has been one HELL OF A YEAR.

What do you want your 2011 to look like?  You can mold, shape, dream it to be anything you want it to be....

Pay it forward Friday

Sorry I missed all of you yesterday, I was traveling for work to Little Rock ( I totally wish I was there longer because I would have contacted Ben and made him run with me.  I kind of stalk him.  Sorry Ben)

It was great trip with some great potential for new business for me.  Which is good because I have rather steep goals in 2011 which I will have to exceed.  Enough business talk.....

Oh - and the picture from Wednesday - it was FRY DAY.... I thought it was funny.

Jason is hosting Pay It Forward Friday with a giveaway.  You should click that link (<-----) and read about it.  It's a great idea and I hope I win --- but I kinda hope I win last so I can read everyones motivating notes in the books.  What an amazing idea.  Just to rub it in Jason, Cayla and I are going to ride bikes tomorrow - you should be jealous because he is super fun to hang with.  I think I was destined to meet him and Karen.  What awesome people!!!

So I was reading his post and I was thinking about endurance sports and had you asked me two years ago what an endurance sport was I don't know that I could have defined it or put anything into that category.  Endurance for me then was a LONG day shopping at the mall (complaining that my feet hurt) and depleting my bank account.

I have links over there (---->) about the history of my triathlete lifestyle; but don't recall that I actually wrote it out on this blog.  I have no idea how to know if people actually click those links so if you've read it before, I'm sorry..... if you haven't I hope you stick around b/c I think I've come along way since then.

The time was November 2008.  I had recently been laid off my job, Bill and I had broken up, and I was an emotional mess to say the least.  There were numerous times that I woke up on the couch at 2pm with an empty bottle of wine....I was never on the verge of alcoholism but drinking at 2pm in your PJ's BY YOURSELF while emotional is NEVER a good idea.  I snapped out of that dark place and decided I needed to do something constructive with my free time (besides looking for a job and doing laundry).

I started working out quite frequently at the gym.  Sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.  I would go do circuit weights in the morning (following the 24 hour fitness circuit weight banner hung for everyone to see).  I would go home, shower, hit a couple job sites, hopefully go to an interview, and then head back to the gym for cardio - then sometimes late night I would go back b/c I was bored and you can only watch so much tv.

Anyways - I developed some sort of obsession/routine with the gym.  It became a safe place for me.  It was a place that I didn't have to think  about what was going on outside those four walls.  I could focus on me and not on my unemployment or my crumbled relationship.

That month of November I learned a lot about what I was capable of.  I learned that I was capable of running a mile.  I was capable of not dying during that mile.  I was capable of taking care of myself..... it was the only thing I had control of.

I was watching Biggest Loser.....they participated in the BL Triathlon.  I thought to myself... I can do that.  Then I saw on FB that a friend from college had just finished her first triathlon...I was inspired.  I started googling.  {FYI - I'm a pretty amazing google-er}

I found the My First Tri hosted by Play-Tri in McKinney.  A 300 meter swim, 6 mile bike and a 2 mile run.  It seemed like an achievable goal - but one in which I had a small inkling could still be impossible.  {self doubt.... I'm really really good at that}

When I posted my first post on my old blog about the triathlon I had 19 weeks to train.  I had a looooong way to go to get into the shape that I needed to be to do a TRIATHLON for heavens sakes!

A triathlon.... I never thought I would hear that word come out of my mouth except in the sentence "Who the F would do a triathlon?"

A year and a half later I have 5 triathlons, 5 5K's and 1 half marathon under my belt....along with numerous training hours logged, new friends, 20 pounds shed, and a vision on a healthy lifestyle that once was something I didn't believe I could have.

Can you pay it forward today?  Can you inspire someone to do something they never thought possible?  Or buy a coffee for the person in front of you?

What you do makes a difference.......
